On 23 July 2026, Explora Journeys, the ultra-luxury cruise brand of MSC Group, took delivery of Explora III, the third vessel in its fleet and a new milestone in its €3.5 billion six-ship programme.
Built in Genoa, Explora III measures 268 metres in length and features 461 suites, each with a private terrace. The first vessel in the fleet designed to operate on LNG, it is also equipped with shore power connectivity, allowing its engines to be switched off while in port and thereby reducing emissions.
At 19.2 metres longer than the previous vessels, Explora III is the largest and most spacious ship in the Explora Journeys fleet. New onboard experiences include The Cellar, The Chef’s Table, Shore Club on 11 and a second Owner’s Residence designed by Patricia Urquiola.
Once again, Somec Group’s Horizons and Talenta divisions confirmed their role as trusted partners to leading international cruise operators and shipyards.
Somec Navale, part of the Horizons division, delivered the vessel’s complete external glazing system, including windows, balustrades, balcony dividers, special glazing and high-performance solutions for cabins, suites, public areas and the command bridge.
Oxin, a Somec Group company belonging to the Talenta division and specialising in professional onboard kitchen systems, completed all catering areas aboard the vessel. The project covered approximately 2,900 m² across galleys, pantries, bars and service areas, meeting the construction schedule and the project’s demanding quality standards.
The quality of the work was further confirmed by the U.S. Public Health Inspection, which was completed with no observations.
The delivery of Explora III further strengthens a collaboration that has already seen Somec Group companies contribute to Explora I, Explora II and Explora III. Work is now progressing on Explora IV, with the same focus on quality, reliability and execution excellence that distinguishes the Group’s contribution to the international cruise industry.
